Dave McClure, founding partner of 500 Startups, an Internet startup seed fund and accelerator program in California and an investor in more than 250 companies, will be the keynote speaker at Friday’s Startup Paradise Demo Day in Honolulu.
McClure, who has been an investor in such companies as Mint.com [acquired by Intuit], Twilio, TaskRabbit, TeachStreet [acquired by Amazon.com] and CreditKarma, has been in Silicon Valley for more than two decades as a software developer, entrepreneur, startup advisor, investor, blogger and Internet marketing expert with big name companies such as PayPal, Founders Fund, Facebook, LinkedIn, Inteland Microsoft.
“We have worked in partnership with 500 Startups since the inception of Blue Startups and they have always been hugely supportive of the entrepreneurial scene in Startup Paradise,” said Chenoa Farnsworth, managing director of Honolulu-based Blue Startups, in a statement. “Dave McClure is a champion for Hawaii and for startups globally.”
Thirteen startups from the Hawaii-based Energy Excelerator and Blue Startups will pitch their ideas to an audience of about 300 investors, entrepreneurs, policy makers, students and other stakeholders on Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Iolani School’s Seto Hall and Sullivan Center for Innovation and Leadership.
The companies participating in the Demo Day include Autowatts, Ballast Energy, Oroeco, People Power, Shifted Energy, Comprendio, Cultur, Focus Opus, ingollow, Juicies, Quic, Vantage Sports and Yuru.
